Senate Committee on Labor, Elections and Urban Affairs

The Senate Committee on Labor, Elections and Urban Affairs held an executive session and public hearing on September 2, 2009 at the state Capitol. During the executive session the committee considered: Appointment of Rosemary Finora of Pewaukee as a member of the Employee Trust Funds Board; Assembly Bill 33 relating to technical changes that affect the public debt amortization fund of a first class city; and Assembly Bill 132 relating to a requirement that an employer grant an unpaid leave of absence to allow an employee to participate in an emergency service operation of the Civil Air Patrol and prohibiting discrimination in employment based on Civil Air Patrol membership. During the public hearing the committee heard testimony on: Assembly Bill 165 relating to expanding the types of property that may be specially assessed by a neighborhood improvement district; Senate Bill 168 relating to supervision of barber or cosmetologist apprentices; and Senate Bill 179 relating to deceptive election practices; voter intimidation, suppression, and protection; granting rule-making authority; and providing penalties.
