Newsmakers: Wisconsin Realtors Report: "Falling Behind" in Housing

On October 1, 2019, Senior Producer Steve Walters interviewed Tom Larson of the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association and Kurt Paulsen of the UW Madison on the report, “Falling Behind.” The report documents a workforce housing shortage and the need for bipartisan action to address this growing concern.

The report found three main causes of the problem: Too few homes being built to keep up with population and income growth. Construction costs outpacing inflation and incomes. And outdated land use regulations driving up housing costs. Potential solutions included building more housing, increasing housing choice diversity, reinforcing the goal of home ownership, reinvesting in older housing stock and neighborhoods, and making housing a higher priority.
