Newsmakers: Bayfield Ice Caves
WisconsinEye – and about 120,000 others – visited Lake Superior ice caves west of Bayfield. Open in January, the stunning formations were built up by Lake Superior waves and water dripping through sandstone and other rocks at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. WisconsinEye’s ice caves guide was Rick Erickson, a Bayfield High physics and chemistry teacher and Wisconsin’s Teacher of the Year. It was the first time since 2009 that visitors could tour the ice caves. Here are directions on how to get to the ice caves: https://www.facebook.com/apostleislandsnationallakeshore
