Newsmakers: Campaign 2011 Supreme Court Candidate JoAnne Kloppenburg

Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg is one of four candidates for the Wisconsin Supreme Court seat that will be filled in the April 5 election. In a Newsmakers interview on January 31, 2011, the veteran prosecutor said she is running because the court is bogged down in partisan ways that has damaged its credibility. For example, the court is split on whether to discipline Justice Michael Gableman for an improper ad he ran in the 2008 campaign, Kloppenburg said. She said her ability to serve four attorney generals — two Democrats and two Republicans — proves she can work impartially with all sides. The two candidates who get the most votes in the Feb. 15 primary will compete in the April 5 general election. The incumbent is Justice David Prosser.
