Newsmakers: Governor Scott Walker on His First Week in Office

In a Capitol interview on Jan. 7, Republican Gov. Scott Walker said the most productive part of his first week in office was announcing details of the job-creation package he wants the Legislature to pass by March 1. Walker also said he does not want to build any new prisons and the 340 employees of the State Department of Commerce should understand that they have an exciting chance to attract and grow businesses by working with the public-private Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. They would not be state workers, under his proposal, however. Walker also said a friend gave him dance lessons so he wouldn’t embarrass himself when he and his wife, Tonette, opened Monday’s inaugural ball.
