Newsmakers: New Rules for Officer-Involved Deaths

Two Assembly leaders – Republican Rep. Garey Bies, of Sister Bay, and Democratic Rep. Chris Taylor, of Madison – want Wisconsin to write the first statewide law governing how officer-involved deaths are investigated. In a Newsmakers interview on Sept. 11, Bies and Taylor explained that local law enforcement agencies now have their own rules to investigate officer-involved deaths — a process that often leaves community leaders, family members of those who have died, and local residents uncertain that a complete, unbiased investigation was done.
