Newsmakers: Recall 2011 – Incumbent for 30th Senate District, Sen. Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay)

In a July 12, 2011 Newsmakers interview, Democratic Sen. Dave Hansen said he did not expect that his decision to join his fellow Senate Democrats in leaving the state in February to avoid a vote on the governor’s weakening of collective bargaining laws for public employees would lead to the fifth recall election in Wisconsin history. However, Hansen said that voters in the Green Bay-area 30th Senate District understand that the Democrats had to leave for Illinois to slow down Gov. Scott Walker’s attack on middle-class workers. Hansen also explained why he voted against legalizing the carrying of concealed weapons and his support for giving women the option of abortions in cases involving rape, incest or the woman’s life. Hansen faces Republican David VanderLeest in the July 19 recall election.
