Newsmakers: Robotic Milking Units

On May 29, 2014, Senior Producer Steve Walters traveled to Omro to visit the farm of Pete and Charlie Knigge, father-and-son farm owners who bought and installed the first robotic milking units in the nation in 2000. Now, the units – which cost about $170,000 each – are growing more popular. The Knigges said the purchase was the best decision they ever made, since they offer cows a chance to milk 24 hours a day. When something goes wrong, computers send Charlie Knigge a message.
