Newsmakers: Secretary Paul Jadin – Dept. of Commerce

Former Green Bay mayor and economic development veteran Paul Jadin joined Gov. Scott Walker’s administration as Commerce Department secretary. But he and the governor want lawmakers to let Jadin instead head a new Wisconsin Economic Development Authority, which would offer more flexibility to attract and keep businesses. In a WisconsinEye Newsmakers interview on Jan. 20, 2011, Jadin said Walker’s "open for business" agenda is already resulting in contacts from out-of-state businesses. Jadin also said about 110 of the 310 Commerce Department employees would transfer to the new authority and not be state employees. The other 200 workers would transfer to the Regulation and Licensing Department.
