Newsmakers: Senator Mark Miller

Democratic Senate Leader Mark Miller (D-Monona) said the 14 Senate Democrats met outside the Capitol on Feb. 17, hours before the Senate was to take up Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s budget repair bill, and quickly agreed to go to Illinois to block a vote on the bill. Despite Republican fears that the move to Illinois was a ‘dangerous precedent," Miller said it took an extraordinary action to stop Republican from rushing the bill through the Legislature in only six days. Miller again said Senate Democrats have no plans to return to the Capitol until the governor agrees to compromise on his plan to all but eliminate public employee unions.
