First-term Republican Sen. Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac said in a WisconsinEye Newsmakers interview that his vote for Gov. Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill may him his job in the November 2012 election. Hopper said he has five correctional facilities and two universities in the 18th Senate District he represents — institutions who employees oppose parts of Walker’s changes. Emotional opposition to the bill runs do deep that, Hopper said, he has to alert local police five minutes before he arrives home from the Capitol.
