Newsmakers: Spring Session Preview with Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau)

Previewing the spring legislative session, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald was asked about several major issues in a Jan. 10 Newsmakers interview: Gov. Walker's trial-balloon idea of abolishing the income tax, Senate action on a new bill requiring a photo ID to vote, the need for more OWI specialty courts instead of tougher laws, an attempt to legalize the sale of raw milk, new accountability standards for public schools and private schools participating the Choice program, pending Senate votes that will approve mental health reforms and fighting heroin abuse, and why there will be no public hearing on a plan that would create a bipartisan panel to draw new legislative boundaries based on numbers from the 2020 Census. Fitzgerald also praised the appointment of Dr. Ray Cross as the new president of the 26-campus UW System.
