Newsmakers: Task Force on UW System Restructuring

The 2011 controversy over a proposed separate governing board for UW-Madison, an idea killed by the Legislature and other UW System administrators, prompted the creation of a task force that studied potential restructuring and new operating flexibilities for the 26 UW System campuses. Michael Falbo, vice president of the Board of Regents, and UW-Madison Vice Chancellor Darrell Bazzell discussed the task force’s work, and the limited changes it recommended, in an Aug. 6 Newsmakers. Although they said the UW System needs new flexibility in procurement, building planning and compensation issues, there is no support for independent governing boards for any of the 26 System campuses.
