Newsmakers: The Need for Workforce Housing in Wisconsin

On December 5, 2022, Newsmakers Host Lisa Pugh sat down with Kurt Paulsen, professor of urban and regional planning at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Wally Orzechowski, the Executive Director of the Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program to outline the workforce crisis and offer possible solutions. By all measures Wisconsin’s economy continues to be strong – adding jobs and sustaining an unemployment rate below the national average. But a lingering concern in many communities is a lack of workforce housing. Higher construction costs, stagnant housing development and limited affordable rental options are threatening the ability for employers to attract and retain workers.
