Newsmakers: Women's Equality Day

A Women’s Equality Day event on Aug. 25 honored the 1920 ratification of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote. Wisconsin was the first state to ratify that amendment. In an Aug. 25  Newsmakers, two leaders of that event, Judy Patrick, President and CEO of the Women’s Foundation of California, and Eve Galanter, chair of the Wisconsin Women’s Network, discussed the barriers that keep women from political and economic power. They also announced that Wisconsin has been selected for an institute on women’s issues, incuding helping retired women who are the "poorest of the poor."
