Rotary Club of Madison: Dick Wagner – We've Been Here All Along

On August 7, 2019, the Rotary Club of Madison hosted Dick Wagner on the topic of his book, “We’ve Been Here All Along: Wisconsin Early Gay History.” His presentation covered the early persecution of homosexuals in Wisconsin and how brave gay men and lesbians responded by affirming their own lives and building networks of support. The event took place in Madison, WI.

Dick Wagner holds a PhD degree in American History from UW-Madison. He served 14 years on the Dane County Board. Governor Tony Earl appointed him to co-chair the Governor’s Council on lesbian and gay issues in 1983. In June 2019, the Wisconsin Historical Society Press published the first of his two-volume history of gay life in Wisconsin.
