Campaign 2012 Newsmakers: Pre-Election Analysis

Three political scientists – Amber Wichowsky of Marquette University, Charles Franklin of the Marquette Law School, and UW-Milwaukee Professor Mordecai Lee – previewed Tuesday’s historical recall election for governor in a special Newsmakers taped June 1, 2012. They discussed voter turnout, what next steps either candidate — Republican Gov. Scott Walker or Democrat Tom Barrett — will take if they win Tuesday, last-minute issues that have emerged and the polarization of voters. Asked to predict Tuesday’s winner, Lee said it could depend on turnout (more than 2.5 million voters favor Barrett), Wichowsky predicted a 4% Walker win, and Franklin stuck by his latest poll results, which showed Walker ahead by a 52% to 45% margin.
