Newsmakers: Campaign 2011 Supreme Court Candidate David Prosser

Supreme Court Justice David Prosser is running for re-election in the April 5 general election. Three other candidates are challenging the former Republican legislator, forcing a Feb. 15 primary election. The two top winners of the primary will meet in the April 5 general election. In a Newsmakers interview in the WisconsinEye studio on January 28, 2011, Prosser defended his decisions to not discipline Justice Michael Gableman for a critical campaign ad he ran in the 2008 campaign and to not adopt strict rules on when a campaign donation must force a justice to withdraw from a case. Prosser also said a new campaign-finance law, which will give him and two other candidates $100,000 public grants before the Feb. 15 primary, was part of an effort to defeat him. Prosser was appointed to the court in 1998 and won his first 10-year term in 2001.
