Newsmakers: Census Documents Changing Wisconsin

Only 31% of Wisconsin African-Americans lived in homes they owned in 2010 — lower than 44% average rate nationally. Almost 14% of Wisconsin residents were age 65 or older in 2010, and the number is growing. The number of Hispanic youths under age 18 in Wisconsin grew by 81% between 2000 and 2010. These and other Census Bureau statistics on Wisconsin were explained by Katherine Curtis, an assistant UW-Madison professor of sociology in an Oct. 20 Newsmakers interview in the WisconsinEye studio.
