Newsmakers: David McDonald on the Search for the Next UW-Madison Chancellor

On January 18, 2013, Senior Producer Steve Walters discussed the search for UW-Madison’s new chancellor with UW-Madison professor David McDonald, chairman of the 25-member search committee. McDonald said he expects the names of at least five finalists to be made public within a few weeks. He talked about how the 70 initial applicants, whose names are secret, will be culled to the finalists. McDonald talked about the many demands on the new chancellor, other major universities also searching for leaders and the challenges ahead for the UW System’s flagship university. Despite the record salaries being paid to other college presidents, McDonald also said the next chancellor will not be paid more than $1 million a year.
