Newsmakers: Department of Administration Secretary Michael Huebsch
In a Jan. 4 WisconsinEye Newsmakers interview, Secretary of Administration Mike Huebsch gave the most detailed recounting yet of his actions and responses to mass Capitol protests in February and March. Huebsch also explained why those protests led to DOA’s controversial new access and permit policy, which he said is constitutional and was written after review of public access policies used in statehouses across the nation. Huebsch also said it does not appear that the Legislature will have to pass a 2010-11 budget-repair bill this spring. A Republican member of the state Assembly from 1995 until 2011, and a former Assembly speaker, Huebsch also said he has no plans to run for office again.
