Newsmakers: Department of Health Services Secretary Dennis Smith on Affordable Care Act

In his most extensive interview since the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act, Health Services Secretary Dennis Smith explained why the Nov. 6 election for president and Congress should delay Wisconsin's decisions on compliance with the health-care act. In a July 26 Newsmakers interview, Smith said the federal budget compromise that expires on Jan. 1, and the promise of Republican candidates to repeal the Affordable Care Act, will dictate Wisconsin's next moves. He also said the Supreme Court ruling allows states to reduce their Medicaid benefits — an option he said he must explore to control future health-care costs.
