Newsmakers: Exiting Senator Kathy Bernier on Election Reform, Reading and Her Legacy

On February 21, 2022, Newsmakers host Lisa Pugh sat down with Sen. Kathy Bernier (R-Chippewa Falls) to talk about her legacy and what she plans to accomplish before her term is over. A lifelong Republican who has spent 25 years in public office, including more than a decade in the state legislature, yet this past year has perhaps been the most trying for State Senator Kathy Bernier. She’s been on the national stage criticizing former President Donald Trump’s 2020 election claims and has been ridiculed for it. As a former County Clerk she has stood up for the integrity of Wisconsin’s election system, while some in her own party challenge her publicly. And she’s not done.
