Newsmakers: Fall Preview with Senator Fitzgerald and Representative Fitzgerald

In a Sept. 12 Newsmakers preview of the fall legislative session, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald said new mining regulations, a constitutional amendment to make it harder to recall state officials, broader self-defense power for homeowners and new pre-abortion restrictions will be debated over the next few weeks. The two Republican leaders also said any new Democratic efforts to recall Republicans would cause a “huge halt” and be a “huge distraction” in the legislative process. Both also said they are not worried that Republican Gov. Scott Walker will be tossed from office in a recall election next year. Scott Fitzgerald also said he does not support a proposed constitutional amendment to appoint Supreme Court justices; Jeff Fitzgerald said he had not yet seen that proposal.
