Newsmakers: Former Assembly Speaker Scott Jensen
In his first in-depth interview in more than eight years, former Republican Assembly Speaker Scott Jensen candidly talked about his eight-year legal fight against criminal charges filed in fall 2002. Weeks ago, the Waukesha County district attorney dropped three felony charges as part of a deal in which Jensen agreed to plead guilty to a civil violation, pay a forfeiture and repay about $67,000 in legal bills. Jensen said he still regrets not appealing a misdemeanor conviction that prohibits him from ever running for state or local office. He said his legal bills cost more than $1 million. Although Jensen said he offers free political advice to old friends, he said he loves his full-time job of advocating for private-school choice programs nationally.
