Newsmakers: Kurt Bauer-Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce

In an April 6 Newsmakers interview, Kurt Bauer talked about his new job as president and CEO of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, the state’s largest business group. Bauer said WMC will continue to get involved in political campaigns to achieve its top priorities — controlling taxes, making regulatory rules and regulations are reasonable and achieving a predictable climate for lawsuits. Bauer estimated that a political subsidiary of WMC, WMC Issues Mobilization, spent less than $3 million on ads to help re-elect Supreme Court Justice David Prosser in the April 5 election. But he said it is too soon to tell what, if any, role WMC will play in May special elections to fill three vacant state Assembly seats and in any summer recall elections aimed at state senators. Before joining WMC, Bauer was president of the Wisconsin Bankers Association.
