Newsmakers: New Joint Finance Committee Chairs

One month after Republicans won majorities in both state Assembly and Senate, the new co-chairs of the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee – Sen. Alberta Darling and Rep. Robin Vos – said they look forward to fixing the $3.3-billion deficit that looms by mid-2013. In a Newsmakers interview on Nov. 30, they said they are prepared to work with Republican Governor-elect Scott Walker to cut state spending, reorganize agencies and programs and avoid tax increases. Darling and Vos will chair the 16-member committee that has been called one of the most powerful legislative panels in the nation, since it oversees taxing and spending. Walker will give his 2011-13 budget to the Finance Committee in February.
