Newsmakers: New Wetlands Rules with Senator Kedzie, Reps. Mursau and Molepske

The first reworking of Wisconsin wetlands development rules in more than 10 years will be debated soon in the state Senate, Republican Sen. Neal Kedzie predicted in a WisconsinEye Newsmakers interview on Jan. 31. Kedzie and the Assembly chief sponsor of the bill, Rep. Jeff Mursau, explained why the packages of changes are needed and said they would still allow DNR regulators to deny development permits that threatened the most critical wetlands. Democratic Rep. Louis Molepske said the changes would erode what should be first rule of dealing with vital wetlands — "avoid" developing them.
