Newsmakers: This Year in Wisconsin Politics

In an Aug. 18 Newsmakers interview, UW-Madison political science professors Kathy Cramer Walsh and John Witte reviewed the historical first eight months of this year in Wisconsin politics – including the inauguration of Republican Gov. Scott Walker, massive protests followed by the passage of Walker’s 2011-13 budget and a record nine recall elections targeting state senators. Walsh said the future political issue that most intrigues her will be who runs for the U.S. Senate seat being given up next year by retiring Democrat Herb Kohl. Witte said he is most intrigued by the question of whether Walker’s opponents will gather the 540,208 signatures necessary next year to force a recall election for Walker.
