Newsmakers: WBA President/CEO Rose Oswald Poels

Rose Oswald Poels became president of the Wisconsin Bankers Association on June 1 — 20 years after starting out as an intern for the organization. A lawyer, Poels is one of only two women who head major statewide trade associations. In a Newsmakers interview at the WBA office on June 13, Poels said seven out of eight Wisconsin banks are profitable, which is an improvement from two years ago. However, she added,  banks are struggling with new regulations imposed by federal bank in the wake of the federal bailout of large national banks, anti-fraud costs that keep growing, and the uncertainly of not knowing what "swipe fees" banks will be able to charge when debit cards they issue are used by consumers.
