Newsmakers: WMC's 'Growing Wisconsin' Report

Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce is turning 100 by releasing a major new study, Growing Wisconsin, that says that manufacturing remains the most important business sector in Wisconsin. Kurt Bauer, WMC’s president and CEO, said in a Newsmakers interview on Oct. 17 that manufacturing is even more important to Wisconsin’s economy than it was 10 years ago — even though the state has lost 110,000 manufacturing jobs over the same period. Bauer also discussed six new tax breaks, credits and incentives that will help businesses statewide, but said pending federal environmental regulations threaten up to 7,000 jobs in paper mills. WMC will also back Gov. Scott Walker, who is being targeted by a recall movement, because businesses need "certainty" in the state’s political environment, Bauer added.
