Newsmakers: Backback Tobacco Act

The Backback Tobacco Act would extend the state cigarettes taxe — now $2.52 per pack – to individual flavored cigars that HealthFirst Wisconsin say manufacturers deliberately market to sell to minors and other tobacco products. It would also require the products to be displayed differently, so they are no longer stored on shelves near candy and other snacks. Two sponsors of the bill — Rep. Garey Bies (R-Sister Bay) and Sen. Nikiya Harris (D-Milwaukee) — joined Melissa Horn, Government Relations Director of Health First Wisconsin; and Kyle Barribeau, a sophomore at Mauston High School to discuss why the changes are needed. The Newsmakers show as taped at the WisconsinEye studio.
