Newsmakers: Department of Revenue Secretary Rick Chandler
Looking at an April 17 deadline to file their 2011 state income taxes, Wisconsin taxpayers must check to see if they qualify for the new tax break for Health Savings Accounts, State Revenue Secretary Rick Chandler said in a WisconsinEye Newsmakers interview on Feb. 7. Chandler also said about 80% of taxpayers — which puts us in the Top Ten of all states — now E-file. He also said doubling the cost of a Powerball ticket — from $1 to $2 — has resulted in the selling of more tickets in Wisconsin, since the changes include a $40-million guaranteed minimum jackpot. Chandler does not plan to recommend any changes to Wisconsin’s lottery, despite plans by neighboring Illinois to sell lottery tickets on-line.
