Newsmakers: Governor Scott Walker (R-Wisconsin)

In a WisconsinEye Newsmakers interview on Aug. 12, Gov. Scott Walker said four of six Republican state senators survived recalls on Aug. 9 because voters knew they had the courage to support his changes that fixed a $3.6-billion budget deficit. Walker said it was unfortunate that two Republican senators, Dan Kapanke, of La Crosse, and Randy Hopper, of Fond du Lac, lost their seats for making the same tough decisions. The first-term Republican governor also pledged to work with Democratic lawmakers on major issues like new mining regulations. He also said voters want a break from the politics of confrontation that have dominated this year.
