Newsmakers: Governor Scott Walker (R-Wisconsin)

In a Newsmakers interview on July 1, first-term Republican Gov. Scott Walker said he hopes his second six months in office aren’t as emotional, traumatic and controversy-filled as the first half of 2011. But, he added, he won’t stop asking the Legislature to pass more jobs-creating bills this fall. Walker also called on the Legislature to apply for $89 million in federal cash to extend unemployment benefits, said he does not know if his opponents will gather the 540,000 signatures needed to force an election on whether he should be recalled next year and said a plan to change the State Constitution to appoint — and no longer elect — Supreme Court justices is "worth looking at." When he has a few leisure moments, Walker said he climbs on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle to relax.
