WisconsinEye joined other reporters on Feb. 13 for a first look at the heavily guarded state-owned building where workers for the Government Accountability Board review more than 1.9 million signatures filed to force recall elections for governor, lieutenant governor and four Republican state senators. In an interview, GAB Director Kevin Kennedy talked about why the location had been kept secret since Jan. 17, when recall petitions were filed, and the name-by-name process by which signatures and addresses on the petitions are checked. Kennedy said the historical nature of the recalls, and potential court fights, required the unprecedented security.
