Newsmakers: Representative-Elect Howard Marklein
As a CPA who has specialized in forensic financial reconstructions, Republican Representative-elect Howard Marklein is not afraid of complex issues and asking tough questions. The Republican from Spring Green has begun studying 2011-13 budget requests submitted by state agencies, for example, and found the pay-and-fringe-benefit package he will get as a lawmaker “generous.” In a Newsmakers interview in his home on Dec. 14, Marklein said his 51st Assembly District needs jobs and leadership on agriculture issues. He also said he will not vote to raise taxes to fix the $3.3-billion budget deficit that looms by mid-2013.
