Newsmakers: Sen. Fitzgerald and Rep. Fitzgerald

They describe themselves as two “Irish brothers,” so they have had their share of disagreements. But, on Jan. 3, Republican Sen. Scott Fitzgerald, of Juneau, will become state Senate majority leader and his younger brother, Republican Rep. Jeff Fitzgerald, of Horicon, will be Assembly speaker. In a Nov. 8 Newsmakers interview, they said they look forward to helping Governor-elect Scott Walker make the tough choices to control spending – something voters on Nov. 2 elected them all to do. They also said several non-budget issues – like requiring a photo ID to vote and allowing the carrying of concealed weapons – will get attention, but controlling state spending must come first.
