Update / April 2, 2026

When WisconsinEye went dark for six weeks earlier this year for lack of funding, we received an outpouring of support from ordinary citizens – more than 600 gifts in the range of $25 to $500. We are extremely grateful, but to secure the long term we require participation from the state to help meet our annual budget.

That remains a question due to the Senate and Assembly adjourning without agreement on a plan.

There was much hope as leadership of both houses and parties expressed positive statements of support and gratitude for the mission and work of WisconsinEye. Bringing their good intentions across the finish line can still happen.

It’s going to take an extraordinary or special session of the legislature, along with agreement from the governor, to come through for us. By “us” we mean all who care about government transparency, value WisconsinEye’s 18+ years of exceptional public service, and want this unparalleled citizen access to continue.
